In protest of Delaware's Blue Laws, a number of Ardenites played baseball on the Green in the hope that it would highlight how the Blue Laws' enforcement was unequally applied to different people and different sports. The game and resulting arrests got the attention of the media, and the following debacle was reported in newspapers across the states. The original New York Times article can be seen here.
In good-humored remembrance of that event, Ardenites and their friends gathered once again 113 years later to enjoy a game of baseball, homemade Cracker Jack popcorn, and good company. Despite a few bouts of rain, the game went on. Not ironically, the Blue Team won a solid victory.
Alex and Jan did a great job organizing the event, and all in attendance had a good time. Donations received for the food were generously given to the Arden Craft Shop Museum. Thank you to all who participated and all who donated!
